MTC December 2021 - Linked Multi-lap

Welcome to the MTC (Monthly Track Contest) for December 2021!
The MTC is a track building contest hosted by TrackmaniaExchange which challenges you to build a map to a specific theme.
There are no prerequisites or qualification requirements to enter, just continue reading the theme below, hop in your editor, and submit a track before the deadline!

:build: Theme: Linked Multi-lap
- Build a Multi-lap track with 2 or more laps where each lap you drive on a different route.
- Each lap must have at least 4 checkpoints. Linked checkpoints are allowed. (Don't link the 4 or more checkpoints to each others)

What to do or not to do:

(brb) Deadline: Entries must be submitted to the MTC mappack before the 26th midnight.
- Following the deadline, the Host will close the mappack for submissions. At that point, all maps in the mappack are considered valid entries.

:award: Prize
- Honor and right to brag!
- The winning track will be featured on the TrackmaniaExchange front page!

:wait: Rules
- One entry is allowed per user. Multi-author maps count as the single entry for all authors involved.
- “MTC” must be present in the track name as it appears on TMX.
- All entries must be built using the latest version of the game.
- All entries must be built specifically for this MTC.
- Press Forward, Left, Right, or similar tracks are not allowed.
- Royal tracks are not allowed.
- Make sure to checkout cuts if its not shorter to take lap 1 two times in a row.

:done: Judging System
All entries will be graded by a panel of judges who will be studying each map based on the following criteria:

Theme (20 pts): How well does the track fit the theme? How creatively did you implement the theme’s requirements?
Design/Route (10 pts): Flow, smoothness, layout, speed, surface diversity, transitions, difficulty. The “Feel” of the track.
Details/Polish (10 pts): Signage, Scenery, Mediatracker, etc. Does the track feel like it has the finishing touches?
Fun Factor (10 pts): Is the track fun to the judge? Some extra points can be given here.

Good luck! Please ask any questions in this thread, otherwise get to building!

I'm confused by the second diagram and I guess the implication it has on rules. It shows start at multilap, take 4cps then take a finish, take a different 4 cps and... is that meant to be the same finish or a different finish?

If it's meant to be the same, I'd say the diagram is confusing because you can build a track like that with two separate finishes. If it's not meant to be the same, what distinguishes that track from any single lap track?

You can do both. I will not do all kind of situations possible just the two main ones. The track can be a multilap track with two different path where you always have to pass into the same "multilap" or you can do a multilap track with the second method without having to cross the roads in each lap.

For example some tracks in Mariokart (in the recent versions) doesn't have the same road each lap. The Fzero track "big blue" is a good example of the second diagram (Mariokart 8)

By far, to avoid the configuration where: if you take 2 times the same path (two times do the 1st lap road) because its shorter, the second solution is easier to map because you can avoid crossroads and possibly avoid any cut possible.
1st diagram is kinda hard to avoid that.

The theme is oriented for the use of the linked checkpoints more than do a multilap track but everybody do what they want ;)

How do linked checkpoints work? I have no idea how to use them correctly.

Pretty sure it is possible to just make a normal point to point map with extra multilap blocks. I assume this is not allowed? Or is the grading based on how creative the multilap use is or something?

Hey RedstoneGram, i'm not able to create a tutorial about that but here is a good tutorial for TM2. https://forum.maniaplanet.com/viewtopic.php?t=46340

To use it in TM 2020 you must use that button:

And after to set the groups of checkpoint:

Set all the 1st checkpoints of each lap like that:

And repeat the action for cp2 and 3 and 4.

My submission for this month's MTC. My map is slightly on the shorter side, though I put a lot of effort into it. I found a cut, but I have no idea how to get rid of it. The scenery was made by making the island itself, then turning the floating island into a macroblock and tilting it. This is something new to me, and I hope you enjoy it!
