Alright look. I'm getting tired of this misinformation. The Grand Canyon isn't very deep, relatively speaking. It's long, and it's wide, but the Cotahuasi Canyon in Peru is nearly twice as deep. And the Yarlung Zangbo Grand Canyon in Tibet is more than 3 times as deep (19,715 feet, vs Grand Canyon's 5,697 feet), and it's longer too.
Furthermore, there are ocean trenches that make terrestrial canyons look like mild scratches. Challenger Deep in the Mariana Trench is 36,197 feet deep.
It was once believed that nothing could survive at that pressure, but when we finally went down there and explored it, we found life; 10cm single celled amoebas, sea cucumbers, even fish. Sadly, it turns out that the bright lights from the sub will actually severely damage most living creatures at that depth, and they usually die within a few hours of contact. It reminds me of my effect on people, so I just dim my lights and hope I don't expose anyone to my dangerous radiation. Metaphorically speaking.
