SH-manifest :
SH maps should be made for chill driving. They are defined by a combination of objective and subjective factors that concurr to create maps with low frustration for beginners and people who just drive for fun. The conditions are the following :
Objective factors :
- You should be able to finish the map by only pressing forward at all times. This shall be called the SH-0 run. Bronze is SH-1, Silver is SH-2, Gold is SH-3, Author is SH-4.
- SH-4 should be at least twice as fast as SH-0.
- The SH-1 time should be the mean of SH-0 and SH-4.
- The SH-2 time should be the mean of SH-1 and SH-4.
- The SH-3 time should be the mean of SH-2 and SH-4.
- The SH-0 time must be declared.
- If the map is a multilap, you only have to check that you can finish the first lap by pressing forward. In that case, the SH-0 time should be the number of laps times the « one lap SH-0 time ».
Subjective factors :
- SH-4 and SH-0 should both follow the intended route.
- The map should not include any form of guidance, in order to let people explore the map for themselves. No GPS should be placed for the SH-0 run is already a GPS.
Bonus factors :
The map should globally be beginner-friendly. So it shouldn’t contain difficult speed-checks, nor very precise corners/drifts, etc. Player’s potential frustration should be taken into account and avoided in the map. In particular, as these maps are made for chill driving, speed can always be rewarded, but it is important that the lack of speed should never be punished. Most importantly, racing lines should not be perfect for players with great pace because this will often frustrate slow drivers, and so racing lines can be a bit awkward as long as they feel a bit nicer with low speed.
Trivia : the name SH is a reference to the blindfolded trackmania run made by Wirtual on C08-Obstacle.
SH-0 declaration : 7:53.826
